Practicing Conversational English: A Program for International & Domestic Graduate Students (flyer)

Time: Wednesdays, 4:20-5:30 PM

Instructor: John C. Bohan
Professor Emeritus of Education
DePaul University

Through exploration and analysis of a variety of short stories, this program will aide in the development of the following skills:

  • Clarity in speaking and writing English
  • Increasing vocabulary
  • Consideration of purpose and tone in speaking and writing
  • Practicing a variety of methods to express an idea
  • Reviewing the disciplines of English (grammar, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure)

Current Readings: Fifty Great Short Stories by Crane, Milton ISBN: 0553277456

Instructor experience: Professor Bohan has extensive experience in teaching English. He has taught grammar and literature in high school; composition, literature and reading comprehension in junior college; methods of teaching English in college, and theories of constructing an English curriculum in graduate school. Also, he has privately tutored international students and since then tutored for more than six years in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. He enjoys working with students at all levels.
