Computer Imaging

User Support Services uses imaging technology to quickly deploy standard applications and configurations to Standard HSC Dell workstations. An image is a copy of one computer's hard drive that can be applied to other hard drives very quickly. One computer is built up to our standards, and that computer becomes the image upon which all other workstations are based. This method is much faster than installing and configuring each application by hand.

In this way, every HSC workstation can be made to behave in compliance with approved standards. This make support easier, resulting in faster turn-around times and less down-time for you.

Our imaging procedure will quickly install a suite of supported software onto your workstation. Due to the Microsoft Campus Agreement that the HSC is under the images will install the Windows Vista operating system and the Office 2007 suite of applications. For a list of common software and versions that run on Windows Vista review the software compatabilty list.

Imaging Requirements

In order to image your machine, you need to have submitted both a HEAT ticket and the Pre-Image Checklist for each machine you want imaged. Further, a technician needs to have contacted you to schedule a time for you to deliver the machine to the office. Until all of these steps are completed, the machine will not be imaged, and will not be accepted into the office. Do not drop off your computer without being contacted, we do not have room to store computers and we will not accept it.

The IP Addresses, Manufacturer, and Model Number of all printers must be included or we will not setup the printing on the computer and you will then need to create another HEAT ticket after the machine has been returned. This will significantly delay the printer setup process.

The Imaging Process

Follow these steps to speed your new workstation along:

  1. Backup your Data.
  2. Backup your GroupWise Archive.
  3. Use HEAT Self-Service to create a work ticket.
