POLICY ON WORKING RETIREES
When a member of the School of Medicine’s faculty retires, the faculty member may wish
to continue to provide services for their department . The faculty member’s department
chair may determine that this would be beneficial to the department and the school. The
department chair and the faculty member may wish to negotiate a working, retiree contract.
If this is the case, the following guidelines must be followed:
- The faculty member is to make a request in writing to the chair of the department
delineating the work which the faculty member will perform for the following year.
- The department will assume all of the fiscal responsibility for funding the part-time
contract for the faculty member. The Dean’s office will not participate in any funding.
- The department chair will determine, based on the availability of departmental funds,
if the faculty member will be issued a part-time working retiree contract.
- The department chair and faculty member can elect one of the following options:
- $15,000 per annum
- Up to .25 FTE of the faculty member’s previous year’s total compensation.
- Contracts are to be negotiated each spring for the following fiscal year and the amount
of compensation is dependent upon available departmental resources and the work which will
be performed by the faculty member.
- The faculty member will remain on the departmental budget and a part-time contract as an
adjunct faculty member will be issued to the working retiree along with the other departmental
faculty contracts.
