BRaIN Imaging Center
About The BRaIN Center
The BRaIN Imaging Center is located in Pete and Nancy Domenici Hall of the University of New Mexico.
BRaIN specializes on integrative neuroimaging of animal models of various neurological and psychiatric disorders,
while MIND specializes on human neuroimaging. BRaIN is a unique neuroimaging facility in the world for advancing
biomedical research.
BRaIN is a 11,000 ft2 research facility equipped with several core facilities:
- Surgical core
- MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) core
- EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) core
- Optical core with 2-photon laser scanning microscope, a photodiode array,
Differential Interference Contrast microscopy-based patch-clamp stations
- Cellular and Molecular biology core
BRaIN is open to all scientists who are interested in using neuroimaging tools to discover the
mechanisms of brain functions in both health and disease. We welcome foreign and domestic scientists
to help us create an exciting international research environment.
Some of the diseases we are set to study
- Stroke
- Epilepsy
- Traumatic brain injury - Neuronal cell death
- Neuronal transplantation - Neuronal recovery – stem cell research
- Parkinson
- Cerebral palsy
- Brain development
