New Mexico Disaster Medical Assistance Team

What We Do

The NM-1 DMAT is a part of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). DMATs are deployed to provide medical support to events of national significance. Teams are prepared to be deployed for up to 14 days at a time (plus travel on each end), to austere environments to treat patients in disaster situations. The team is outfitted to treat up to 250 patients per day for up to three days without resupply. Similarly, individual team members are required to provide for themselves for up to three days without resupply. You must be able to live and work in extreme conditions, carry your own gear and sleep in a tent with 34 of your closest friends.

Join Us!

The NM-1 DMAT is currently soliciting applications for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, communication technicians and paramedics.

DMAT becomes a way of life, and many of us REALLY enjoy it! We have some team members who have been doing this for twenty-five years!

How to Participate

The prerequisite to the application process is demonstration of knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). This is accomplished by completing the FEMA Independent Studies courses 100, 200, 700 and 800 (these are available on-line at www.training.fema.gov).

If this sounds like what you are looking for, then please forward copies of your IS 100, 200, 700 and 800 certificates and your resume to our Administrative Officer Kevin Napp at kevin.napp@hhs.gov. Arrangements will then be made to discuss the application process.
