Teaching

Christine Nathe is currently professor and graduate program director at the University of New Mexico, Division of Dental Hygiene. She also manages the full service dental clinic at UNM.

Research

She has published numerous articles in dental hygiene venues and speaks worldwide on dental public health issues.

Clinical

Professor Nathe has practiced in various settings including private practice, nursing homes, prisons, schools, and the military, and consults for various governmental agencies and private dental industry.

Her book Dental Public Health: Contemporary Practice for the Dental Hygienist is used throughout the world to educate hygienists on the science and practice of dental public health. Additionally, Professor Nathe authors Primary Preventive Dentistry, which is in its 7th edition.

She is an editorial and textbook reviewer of many publications including the Journal of Practical Hygiene, RDH, Contemporary Oral Hygiene, Dental Health, the Journal of the British Dental Hygiene Association and the Journal of Dental Hygiene, and is the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Dental Hygiene.

Service

Professor Nathe has served as Chairperson of the American Dental Hygienists' Association Council on Public Health, Panel Board Member for the American Dental Hygienists' Association Focus on Advancing the Profession Paper’s Public Health Section, Team Leader of the American Dental Educator's Association's Curriculum Review for Community Dental Health Education of the Dental Hygienist and as a member of the Awards Committee for the International Federation of Dental Hygienists. She has previously served as the President of Sigma Phi Alpha.

Awards

She has received the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Teaching Excellence Award, Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Dental Hygiene, Old Dominion University, Distinguished Alumni Award from The Ohio State University, Outstanding Alumni Award from Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Ohio Association of Community Colleges. Professor Nathe recently received the Johnson & Johnson Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award from the American Dental Hygienists' Association.
