Division of Dental Hygiene

Procedure for Applying for Admission

  1. Apply for admission to UNM (if not already enrolled). This is a separate admissions process and requires a separate application packet altogether from that of the Division of Dental Hygiene.

You must contact the UNM Office of Admissions to obtain the correct information.

    277-2439 (transfer students)
    277-3430 (freshmen)
    277-4376 (branch campuses)

Students transferring from another institution or those seeking admission to UNM for the first time must submit a formal application to the UNM Office of Admissions. Consult the UNM general catalog for information regarding application and transfer regulations.

UNM pre-professional students accepted into the dental hygiene program that are registered in other colleges, University College, Arts & Sciences, etc. must transfer to the division of dental hygiene in the spring semester of entry into the program.

Please Note: This means that Dental Hygiene candidates actually complete two separate application processes - one to the University and a second completely separate application must be sent to the Division of Dental Hygiene.

  2. Complete all portions of the attached application forms and return them to the Division of Dental Hygiene in time to be received by the application deadline (September 1st of the academic year of anticipated enrollment in the Dental Hygiene program).

    1. application to UNM Office of Admissions

    2. application to the Division of Dental Hygiene (4 pages)

    3. official transcripts of all colleges attended

    4. application fee

    5. verification of employment by a dentist, dental hygienist or in a health-care related field ( if applicable). This verification must by typewritten on official stationary bearing the letterhead of the office/organization in which you have worked. The letter should clearly state the responsibilities you fulfilled as well the time period during which you were employed. Statements regarding this person's opinion of your suitability as a dental hygiene candidate are also appropriate. The letter must be signed and dated by the dentist/hiring official and must contain a phone number for verification purposes.

    6. any other documents requested by the division.

Candidates are hereby notified that if any document is missing as of the deadline for application, the Division cannot consider that candidate. Candidates are strongly encouraged to begin this process early and also to be aware that it takes considerable time for documents (transcripts) to be transferred from one institution to another.
