University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Department of Dermatology. Dr. Padilla received his MD Degree from the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in 1975 and completed residency training in Dermatology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in 1980. He subsequently completed two fellowships; One in Dermatopathology and another in Dermatological Surgery and Oncology. He is board certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology and performs Mohs Micrographic Surgery at UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center. Dr. Padilla attends two resident teaching clinics per week at Medical Arts. He is certified in Botox cosmetic treatment. His special interests and expertise are Skin Cancer Surgery, Cosmetic Skin Surgery, Laser Surgery and Skin Pathology.
Assistant Professor

Dr. Strange received his MD Degree from Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas, in 1976 and completed residency training in Dermatology at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is board certified in Dermatology. He earned a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and performs Mohs Surgery at UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center. He also is a faculty physician for general dermatology clinics at Medical Arts. He is certified in Botox cosmetic treatment.
Barrett J. (BJ) Zlotoff, M.D.,
Assistant Professor
Dr. Zlotoff joined our faculty in September 2006. He has an interest in Pediatric Dermatology and supervises the Pediatric Clinics. He attended MCP-Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he received his medical degree. He matched with the department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico for his Internship year before he began his Dermatology residency.

Dr. Smidt is originally from New England, and obtained her M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY. She then completed a Pediatrics residency at Baylor College of Medicine-Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX, followed by a Dermatology residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. She finished her training with a fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at Northwestern University-Children’s Memorial Hospital. During her medical training, she was introduced to the Southwest during three IHS rotations in NM and AZ, and ultimately met her husband, who was raised in Albuquerque. She sees patients aged 0-21 with a broad range of skin disorders. Her main clinical interests include vascular and pigmented birthmarks, laser surgery, and skin disease in adolescents. Her personal interests include physical fitness, the outdoors, art history and spending time with her family.
