Health Care Ethics Certificate Program

An Interdisciplinary Applied Ethics Program - designed to broaden the bioethics knowledge base of those in health care related fields (including doctors, nurses, staff, attorneys, physical therapists, social workers) and to increase their skills in recognizing and addressing ethical dilemmas in health care.

This program has two modules (that need not be taken in any particular order) and is designed for faculty/staff, as well as other professionals interested in the interdisciplinary study of health care ethics.

Module I Begins Saturday, February 2, 2008

Will meet every Tuesday (February 12 - March 25) from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM & Two (2) Saturday sessions: (February 2 and March 29) from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

This module focuses on basic ethical issues in health care:  theoretical and applied ethics; values-based decision making, confidentiality and privacy, informed consent, health care access, culture and medicine, and beliefs and practices related to death and dying.

Module II (Will be scheduled for Fall 2008)

This module explores ethical challenges such as conflicts of interest, professionalism, cultural diversity, kinship, and research ethics. During Module II, faculty will be available to work one-on-one with participants on a project related to specific ethical issues as identified by the participant.

Cost: $800/ module, $1600 total. UNM tuition remission applies for all faculty and staff.  Visa and MasterCard accepted. Flexible payment terms available for those who qualify.

Continuing Education:  CME Credit available; other professional continuing education credits may be available upon request.
