Institute For Ethics
Mission
Our mission is to create an arena for the development of ethics scholarship,
education and service at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. We
seek to be a resource for our local, regional, national and international communities,
fulfilling the ethical imperative of respect for persons through a distinctive focus on
special populations and health care disparity.
Our Aims
- To foster professionalism, ethical sensitivity, and skill among faculty, staff,
trainees, and students
- To provide an ethics consultative service, to improve health, health care, and
health related research at our institution, within the state of New Mexico, the nation,
and our global community
- To create a community of scholars, and learners who are committed to advancing:
scholarship, research, and service in the field of ethics
- To contribute to the recognition and understanding of distinct ethical issues for
special populations, and to value diversity in people and thinking
- To build upon existing strengths and efforts to bring greater coherence to collaborative
and interdisciplinary ethics scholarship, education, and service endeavors at our institution
- To expand the policy development, advocacy and community outreach capacities of our
faculty, staff, trainees, and students to encourage public dialogue on a broad range of
ethical issues, including health care disparities
- To insure that our institution engages in the work of an academic center in a manner
that aspires to the highest levels of professionalism and ethical conduct
