2011 "Professor Nina Wallerstein on Community Based
Participatory Research (CBPR)" - Summer Institute in
Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) for Health. The
week long session held in Albuquerque, New Mexico was attended
by a diverse group of graduate students, researchers, faculty
and community members from across the U.S and Puerto Rico.

"The Family Listening Intergenerational Program: A CBPR Approach to
Indigenous Prevention Research" - Presentation by Lorenda Belone (PhD,
MPH), a Dine (Navajo) researcher and faculty member from the University of
New Mexico. Dr. Belone discusses a culturally-centered, intergenerational
intervention project grounded in a CBPR approach with two southwest partner
Tribes. This evidence-based program resulted with promising effectiveness
indicated by significant changes in pyscho-social measures from pre/post
comparisons. Dr. Belone reflects on bi-directional learning by sharing
university team perspectives.

The Healthy Environments Partnership: Addressing Social Determinants of
Cardiovascular Health Inequity in Detroit" Presentation by Dr. Amy Schulz,
Professor of Health Behavior & Health Education, Associate Director at the
Center for Research on Ethnicity, Culture and Health (CRECH), and Research
Professor at the Institute for Research on Women and Gender. Dr. Schulz
received her Ph.D. in Sociology and her M.P.H. in Health Behavior and Health
Education from the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on social
factors that contribute to health with a particular focus on health
disparities and urban communities. This presentation was given at the UNM
Center for Participatory Research Summer Institute in Community Based
Participatory Research (CBPR) for Health in Albuquerque, NM. June 1, 2011.

Participatory Research: A Promising Strategy for Promoting Healthy Public
Policy" - Presentation by Meredith Minkler, (DrPH, MPH), Professor and
Director, Health and Social Behavior at University of California- Berkeley.
Professor Minkler has over 30 years of experience teaching, conducting
research, and working with underserved groups on community-identified issues
through community building and organizing, and community-based participatory
research (CBPR). Presentation given at the Summer Institute in
Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) for Health in
Albuquerque, NM.

University of New Mexico; Kevin R. Shendo, Pueblo of Jemez Department of
Education. Video description: Approximately 90mins, streaming presentation with
audio. Tribal-Academic partners discuss CBPR strategies for
reducing disparities are discussed by partnership members. A
culturally-centered intervention and results are described.
