As a section within the Division of Geriatrics and Department of Internal Medicine, the Section's mission is to provide leadership in promoting the integration of Palliative Care knowledge, skills and attitudes into the UNM HSC educational community.  The Section addresses the issue of enhanced professional satisfaction among our trainees caring for these patients.  The section plays a leadership role in palliative care training for physicians practicing in rural New Mexico.  This mission of this Section is accomplished through:

  • Academic palliative care education and training opportunities to School of Medicine’s clinical programs with sensitivity to the cultural needs of American Indian and Hispanic communities;
  • Palliative care research and scholarship;
  • Collaboration with local, state, and national organizations to improve palliative care services in New Mexico.
