The New Mexico Tumor Registry

Collaborating with the medical, research and public communities to control the spread of cancer since 1967, The New Mexico Tumor Registry operates and maintains a population-based cancer registry for the entire state of New Mexico and the American Indian population of Arizona. Since 1969, the Registry has been a major source of complete statewide cancer data for two of the nation's largest minority groups: Hispanics and American Indians. Cancer has been a reportable disease in New Mexico since the 1920s (7 NMAC 4.3.1), and in 1973, the state of New Mexico Health Department designated the New Mexico Tumor Registry as the official agent and repository for these data.

Cancer surveillance in New Mexico is conducted according to standards established by the National Cancer Institute's SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results) Program, the North American Association of Cancer Registries (NAACCR), the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA), and the American College of Surgeons.
