Sports Medicine Fellowship program at the University of New Mexico
Department of
Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. We have one twelve-month, RRC-accredited
fellowship position available every August 1. The next available
fellowship is in August of 2009. Completion of an approved orthopaedic surgery residency training program is required.
The UNM Division of Sports Medicine provides team physician coverage for the various University of New Mexico Division I athletic teams, and local high school sports teams. Our sports medicine faculty treat approximately 2,650 patients at the University of New Mexico Lobo Clinic with approximately 2,050 additional sports-related clinic visits in the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Clinics, caring for high school, recreational, and professional athletes. The Sports Medicine Division consists of 4 full-time orthopaedic faculty, 1 sports medicine fellowship trained and CAQ (Certificate of Added Qualifications) certified faculty member dually appointed to the Department of Orthopaedics and Family and Community Medicine, and 1 sports medicine CAQ certified Internal Medicine faculty member. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with 4 full-time certified athletic trainers, 6 graduate assistant athletic trainers through the UNM Department of Athletics and their undergraduate athletic training program. The program will provide the fellow with the broadest possible exposure to diagnosis, treatment (operative and non-operative), and rehabilitation of athletes of a wide range of ages.
