Vice Chair of Research Announced!
Loretta Cordova de Ortega, M.D., Chair of the
Department of Pediatrics, has announced the appointment of Stuart S. Winter,
M.D. as Vice Chair for Research for the Department of Pediatrics commencing
April 15, 2011. The creation of
the Vice Chair of Research position is critical for the Department in moving
forward in our Research mission; Dr. Winter has a strong vision and the
drive to lead this program. Dr.
Winter joined Pediatric faculty with the division of Hematology and Oncology
in 1995 as an Assistant Professor, he achieved the rank of Professor with
Tenure in 2007. Dr. Winter has
served as Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Winter has made research a priority and
has enjoyed a long collaborative history with the Children’s Oncology Group.
His research has focused on the goal of improving the outcome for
children being treated for precursor-B and T-lineage acute lymphoblastic
leukemia. As Vice Chair of
Research, Dr. Winter will construct a coherent research vision for the
Department, develop an administrative infrastructure that allows for
increased research opportunities for all faculty, and recruit new faculty to
contribute to the research needs of New Mexican children.
Through these and other efforts already underway in the UNM Health
Sciences Center, we hope to create a brighter future for the children of New
Mexico and around the world.
