Department of Pediatrics
Division of Critical Care
The Division of Pediatric Intensive Care offers multidisciplinary, state-of-the-art
critical care services for infants and children. These services include the care of pediatric
patients suffering from catastrophic medical illnesses, and victims of trauma. There is
continuous 24-hour coverage by one of seven board-certified/eligible pediatric intensivists,
as well as in-house pediatric housestaff. The unit is staffed with a dedicated group of
highly skilled nurses and equipped with the latest technology required to care for the
critically ill infant or child. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) services
are now available in this unit for infants/children with severe pulmonary or cardiovascular
failure. The Pediatric Critical Care Physicians also run a pediatric deep sedation service
and PICC line service for both inpatients and outpatients.
