Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation provides services to children with chronic conditions through Carrie Tingley Hospital.  One of the objectives is to provide coordinated, comprehensive care that is culturally sensitive.  Although there are specific problems attached to specific chronic diseases, there are multiple needs that are generic among all chronic conditions.  This program places emphasis on both medical and non-medical needs.  Some of the children with chronic diseases seen at Carrie Tingley Hospital include those with:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Spina Bifida
  • Multiple Birth Defects

There are multiple disciplines that provide service and consultation to these children and their families including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, nutrition and dental consultation.  There is also a parent representative to help with school and other advocacy issues.  Through the outreach program, along with orthopaedists and other therapists, pediatricians travel to different communities around the state to provide local consultative services.
