Where We Learn
UNM
Children's Hospital, located within University Hospital,
provides the most advanced pediatric care available in New Mexico.
Our new state-of-the art Children's Hospital opened in 2007, with all new inpatient services,
including a general pediatrics ward with 34-beds, a 20-bed hematology/oncology and specialty
care unit, a 15-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, a 52-bed Newborn Intensive Care Unit, and
a 20-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In addition, the new hospital includes a brand new,
24-hour pediatric emergency department.

Young Children's Health Center
(YCHC) is a community-based pediatric clinic that provides comprehensive health services to families
with children from birth to young adulthood residing in the southeast heights of Albuquerque. This
is an impoverished area with a multicultural and multiethnic background. Families living in this
area are challenged by complexities associated with extreme poverty and sense of isolation. In
order to serve these families all 25+ staff are required to be bilingual. Special components
to this clinic include home visitation, behavioral health services, case management, outreach
activities to schools and the local community center and several other neighboring activities.
Networking and collaboration with other community programs is a priority and a strength of YCHC.
Children with special health care needs, including a large proportion of deaf children and their
families, are a special interest to this program.
Hidalgo Medical
Services: through the PARC program residents spend one month working in the small,
rural communities of either Silver City or Farmington New Mexico. There you live the life of
a rural pediatrician in these thriving community rich in arts and outdoor possibilities!
