We support four UNMHSC Human Research Review Committees (HRRC) and one UNM Institutional Review Board (IRB). Our commitment is to promote the safety and protection of individuals involved in human research by providing support, guidance, and education to facilitate ethical and scientifically sound research. About the Organization

The HRP Office has 14 full-time employees and 2 part-time employees, including 4 Chairs and  12 staff persons. Committee members are drawn from various disciplines across UNM and the surrounding Albuquerque community.

HRPO Activities

During the last fiscal year, the HRPO received the following:
    622 New Study Applications
    1244 Amendments
    1435 Continuation, Reactivation, and Closure Requests

This Spring Session of Research University will cover Fundamentals of Research Ethics and the IRB as well as dive into the recent changes at the HRPO!


Please read Dr. Holdsworth's memo regarding the release of the new HRPO New Studies Application!

For now investigators will be able to use either the old versions or the  New Study Application, however on 3/1/12 only the new version will be accepted.

In addition to the new application, all of the Application Attachments have been updated.



The HRPO will be moving towards an electronic system. In an effort to prepare for the upcoming changes, we will no longer be accepting HARD COPY submissions. Check out the Submissions page for more information.
