Cloud/Rift was commissioned especially for UNM, and defines the north gateway to the HSC campus. The sculpture was funded as part of the New Mexico 1% for art program and was finished in the fall of 2003.
John Christensen’s Cloud/Rift is made of stained concrete and bronze, and stands approximately 30 feet tall. Christensen believes his objects “have each a pronounced and restless attitude of ‘sitting’ on the earth and they ask an audience to shift outward and inward [their] attentions.” In addition to this piece, Christensen has completed large sculptural commissions in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.
