Mission
The mission of the Office of Community Affairs is to foster collaboration among community and
HSC partners to build and sustain healthier communities across the state; promote access to services;
and enhance responsiveness and accountability of HSC to patients and community members from diverse
cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. The office will maintain a special focus on uninsured and
other vulnerable populations.
Priorities
- Accountability to the community for financial resources. This includes promoting the
development of measurements, report formats and communication processes that facilitate
community participation.
- Policy analysis and recommendations in areas of interest to community constituents.
Impact on the community of new hospital financial assistance policies related to self-pay
patients and collections will be examined in the short term. A mechanism for soliciting
community input regarding new policies and policy changes will be developed.
- Systems commitment to patient advocacy for vulnerable persons and the implementation
of processes that anticipate the arrival of and effective service to low-income, uninsured
and vulnerable populations.
- Facilitate understanding of Urban Native American health care access issues and explore
the best mechanism for strengthening competence in addressing these issues within HSC.
