Why Is Compliance Necessary?

  • As health care costs continue to increase, the government has begun to scrutinize more closely those health care institutions and programs that receive federal money.

  • Rules and regulations not strictly followed may result in fraud charges against an institution despite a lack of intent to violate the law. Penalties for even apparently innocent violations can be very steep.

  • As a result, the implementation of health care compliance programs has become standard practice to help prevent potential future legal actions. Such programs help to ensure that a health care institution is in compliance with legal obligations and simultaneously to minimize the likelihood of a government investigation.
