Susan DeFrancesco, JD, MPH, MAT is
an Associate Scientist working on the Injury Prevention Project
at the Prevention Research Center. Under a PRC contract with the
NM Department of Health, she provides technical assistance and
injury prevention resources to the Office of Injury Prevention
staff at the DOH. Before joining the PRC she served on the faculty
at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore,
MD. Susan’s work at Hopkins included research and practice
related to childhood injury prevention, the development and implementation
of injury prevention laws and policies, and the role of health
professionals and community activists in health advocacy. She also
co-taught a course entitled Issues in Health Advocacy and
served as primary instructor for the Graduate Seminar in Injury
Research and Policy. Earlier in her career, Susan served
as Executive Director of Injury Prevention Works, a nationwide
clearinghouse for playground safety information. As Executive Director,
Susan spearheaded a successful campaign to get playground safety
legislation passed in Pittsburgh, PA . She has also worked as an
injury prevention consultant to the Baltimore County Health Department
in Baltimore, MD and the Allegheny County Health Department in
Pittsburgh, PA. and as a researcher and writer for Public Citizen
in Washington, D.C. and The Trauma Foundation in San Francisco,
CA. Susan earned her law degree from the University of Maryland
School of Law, her Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health, and her Master of Arts in Teaching
from the Johns Hopkins School of Education. |
