Family Intervention Empowerment
Curriculum Development
This project seeks to co-develop, pilot, and prepare for full implementation
a family intervention trial of a culturally specific alcohol and other risky
behavior prevention program in partnership with the Ramah Navajo and Jemez
Pueblo. This innovative program focuses on 5th and 6th grade youth, their
parents, and family elders, and builds on several resources. The research design
for this project is to work with local tribal research teams to identify focus
groups and interviews (elders, service providers, educators, adolescents) from
each tribe. the results of the focus groups and work of the local research teams
will be used to adapt the curriculum which will be piloted with families from
each tribe. And the results of this pilot will then be used to develop a full
scale intervention in the two tribal communities.
