Institute for Public Health
The Institute for Public Health strives to improve the health of the population by understanding the cause and natural history of
diseases. It identifies and evaluates new possibilities for both primary and secondary care intervention and prevention.
The Institute also monitors interventions as they are applied among certain populations.

New Mexico Geriatric Education Center
A center dedicated to improving the health care of American Indian elders through the education and training of health care
providers. Partners with the Indian Health Service, the National Indian Council on Aging, the New Mexico Indian Council on Aging,
and statewide consortium members.

Pathways
Pathways, a research study funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, is a school-based health promotion program that
includes physical activity, nutrition, classroom curriculum, and family involvement. The primary purpose is to
prevent obesity among American Indian children by promoting increased physical activity and healthy eating behaviors.

Research Involving Outpatient Settings Network
The RIOS Network is composed of primary care clinicians practicing in Community
Health Centers, Indian Health Service and tribal facilities, and University of New Mexico academic settings.
The network is dedicated to improving the health and health care delivery systems in underserved populations in
New Mexico.
