Message from the Dean

I am pleased to welcome you on behalf of the faculty, staff and students. I encourage you to explore our Web site to learn more about our academic programs, distinguished faculty, research, and areas of practice. The College continues to be on the forefront of nursing in New Mexico and the nation and is a part of an academic Health Sciences Center and Hispanic-serving institution.

The College offers the following online options:

RN to BSN Degree Completion Option

  • MSN Community Health

  • MSN Nursing Administration

  • MSN Nursing Education

  • PhD Program

In addition, we have a large, cutting-edge, conceptually based basic, baccalaureate program in three locations: Albuquerque, UNM Branch Taos, and UNM Branch Valencia, as well as, on-the-ground RN to BSN sites in Gallup, Santa Fe, UNM Hospital, Hobbs, and UNM West-Rio Rancho. The faculty’s achievements include nationally funded research and educational projects, state-funded contracts, organizational leadership in Sigma Theta Tau International, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty, American College of Nurse Practitioners, and National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, as well as many other significant organizations. The College has nationally ranked Nurse-Midwifery and Family Nurse Practitioner concentrations. We also have students in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner concentrations.

I have great respect and admiration for all of the faculty, our students, and the staff who are making these changes possible. Without the strong commitment to the College by everyone, including our alumni and donors, we would not be making these strides forward. We are very proud of the fact that the College is a growing, developing organization that is making headway in achieving our strategic vision and goals.

Karen L. Carlson, PhD, RN
Professor and Interim Dean
