Welcome to our Critical
Thinking Resource!
We are excited to have a site to
share information, experiences, news, and findings related to
critical thinking with you. This resource grew out of our
interest in critical thinking and our goal to enhance our
knowledge and skills in this area as well as increase our
collective awareness and use of critical thinking with faculty
and students in a variety of settings.

Patsy
Duphorne is currently an Assistant Professor at the
College of Nursing, Health Sciences Center, University of
New Mexico. Dr. Duphorne is earned her Bachelor of Science
in Nursing from the University of New Mexico, a Master’s in
Nursing from the University of Washington, and a doctorate
in Organizational Learning and Instructional Technology at
the College of Education from the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Duphorne has been involved in nursing education since
1973. Her teaching experience includes associate degree,
baccalaureate degree, and master’s degree programs in New
Mexico. Her content areas in nursing education include
psychiatric-mental health nursing, nursing leadership,
health promotion, education, and diagnostic reasoning. Dr.
Duphorne’s research interests are in the areas of critical
thinking, distance education, nursing education, and
impaired health care professionals. She has developed and
taught courses both through ITV and online WebCT. She has
published articles related to research in distance education
and impaired health care professionals and contributed
chapters on Chemical Dependency to medical-surgical nursing
texts.
Jean
Giddens is currently an Associate Professor at the
College of Nursing, Health Sciences Center, University of
New Mexico in Albuquerque. Dr. Giddens earned a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas, a Master
of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at El
Paso, and a doctorate in Education and Human Resource
Studies from Colorado State University. Dr. Giddens has been
involved with nursing education since 1984. Her teaching
experience includes associate degree, baccalaureate degree,
and master’s degree programs in New Mexico, Texas, and
Colorado. Her content areas in nursing education include
medical-surgical nursing, health assessment, nursing
process, nursing fundamentals, and education. Dr. Giddens
research interests are in nursing education and critical
thinking. For more than ten years, she also has been
actively writing textbooks, workbooks, and developing
electronic media for nursing students and nurses for
continuing education.
