The UNM College of Nursing welcomes Clarann Weinert, SC, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, a professor at the Montana State University-Bozeman College of Nursing and a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati, as the Carter-Fleck Visiting Professor.

Weinert received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio, a master of science degree in nursing from Ohio State University, and a master of arts degree and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Washington. She has a 25-year-funded program of research on the management of chronic illness which currently includes: use of computers as a means for providing support and health information to isolated rural woman; use of complementary therapy by rural residents in Montana and North Dakota; impact of spirituality on chronic illness; family strategies for caring for Native American elders ; spirituality and suicide; reduction of childhood asthma; and an APRN model for client-centered care for chronically ill rural individuals. She is the Virtual Resource Center director for the Montana Geriatric Education Center and director for the Center for Research on Chronic Health Conditions in Rural Dwellers. Weinert is widely published in social support, rural health/theory and chronic illness management. She is vice president of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) and the 1999 recipient of the STTI Founders Award for Excellence in Research. She has been inducted into the American Academy of Nursing and the Western Academy of Nurses.
