Overview
The Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Community Health provides individualized
programs of study to meet students’ professional goals and to provide flexible planning options. The concentration can be completed in 32 credits. Students may opt for a dual degree with Public Health (MPH).

On completion of the program students will be able to:

  • Utilize epidemiological methods to analyze systems and communities.

  • Evaluate health care services in the community.

  • Evaluate a community’s health needs and resources utilizing theories of planned change and collaboration.

  • Utilize results of nursing research in planning services for individuals, groups, and communities.

  • Implement and evaluate programs based upon a community assessment.

  • Analyze leadership and management roles in community agencies.

Program Objectives
At the completion of the program, the graduate will be prepared to:

  1. Utilize epidemiological methods to analyze systems and communities.

  2. Evaluate health care services in the community.

  3. Evaluate a community’s health needs and resources utilizing theories of planned change and collaboration.

  4. Utilize results of nursing research in planning services for individuals, groups, and communities.

  6. Analyze leadership and manage roles in community agencies.

Admission Requirements

  1.  Hold a bachelor’s degree (e.g., B.S.N.) from an accredited college or university, with an upper-division major in nursing. (Graduates from non-accredited programs [N.L.N. or C.C.N.E.] and RN’s with baccalaureate degree in non-nursing fields are considered on an individual basis.)

  2. Have a minimum grade point average for baccalaureate work of B (3.0) or better.

  3. Be registered in or eligible for nursing licensure in New Mexico with a New Mexico R.N. license obtained within the first term enrolled.
