Do I need a New Mexico Nursing license?
You must be licensed in the state where you complete your clinical requirements.

Can I take all the courses on-line?
All the courses are offered on-line. However, every course is not offered every semester. If you can only take on-line courses please work with your advisor to plan your course schedule. There is also a clinical component in the community, which will be individually arranged with each student and may be conducted in your home community.

Do I have to go full-time?
You may take courses at your own pace however; all courses to be applied to the degree must be completed in 7 years. Since some of the community health courses have prerequisites, please work with your advisor as you plan your schedule.

I live out of state - do I need to come to New Mexico?
This program does not require that you visit New Mexico.

How many hours are required for the fieldwork in N595?
192 hours with a preceptor who has masters in Nursing and not an immediate supervisor. You receive 4 credit hours.

When do I take 595 and do I have to take all four credit hours during one semester?
Taken during the last semester or last two semesters, splitting two credits is allowed.

How many credit hours are required?
31 for the thesis option and 32 for the non-thesis plan.

Can I take the elective courses outside the College of Nursing?
Yes, you can take elective courses outside the College of Nursing, including some that may be available on-line.

What is the 1 credit hour professional paper?
Taken instead of completing a thesis, the professional paper is a manuscript quality paper in an area of professional interest to you or a grant application. In either case, a committee of three graduate faculty members will work with you.
