Patsy Duphorne is an Assistant Professor at the College of Nursing, Health Sciences Center, University of New Mexico. Dr. Duphorne earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of New Mexico, a Master’s in Nursing from the University of Washington, and a doctorate in Education (Organizational Learning and Instructional Technology) with an emphasis in Distance Education at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Duphorne has been involved with nursing education since 1973. Her teaching experience includes associate degree, baccalaureate degree, and graduate degree programs in New Mexico. Her content areas include mental health nursing, biopsychosocial concepts, critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning, nursing leadership, and nursing education. Her clinical area is psychiatric mental health nursing with a special interest in substance abuse. Her research interests focus on critical thinking, distance education, and impaired health care professionals. Currently, she is examining the relationship of learner characteristics to critical thinking in Baccalaureate Nursing Students. Publications include articles on designing computer conferences to foster critical thinking skills, learner satisfaction in a global academic computer conference, and nurses' attitudes towards reporting co-workers suspected of substance abuse. She has also contributed chapters on Substance abuse and dependence to a number of editions of a medical-surgical nursing textbook. |
