Jean Giddens is an Associate Professor at the College of Nursing, Health Sciences Center, University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Dr. Giddens earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a doctorate in Education and Human Resource Studies from Colorado State University. Dr. Giddens has been involved with nursing education since 1984. Her teaching experience includes associate degree, baccalaureate degree, and graduate degree programs in New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado. Her content areas in nursing education include medical-surgical nursing, health assessment, nursing process, nursing fundamentals, and education. She is the Coordinator for the Nursing Education Concentration in the Master's Degree Program. Dr. Giddens research interests are in nursing education and critical thinking. She collaborated in the development of the Critical Thinking Resource for the College of Nursing; a link to this resource can be found above. For more than ten years, she also has been actively writing textbooks, workbooks, and developing electronic media for nursing students and nurses for continuing education, and serves as an education consultant for a variety of projects. Her current endeavor, The Neighborhood, is an innovative web-based virtual community to facilitate conceptual learning in the undergraduate curriculum.
