Ruth Nichols has been a clinical educator on the CON faculty since 2002. Ruth received a Masters' in Community Health Nursing in 1998 from UNM. As an extension of her Masters' work she helped to develop a school-based preventive dental program called Healthy Smiles. This was an interdisciplinary project that involved nurses, social workers and dental hygiene students and faculty from the UNM School of Dental Hygiene.

Ruth has spent most of her career as a critical care nurse. She has had extensive experience in pediatric and adult as well as cardiac critical care. Most recently she has worked in an ICU in a specialty hospital that provides long-term acute care. Ruth has always been an enthusiastic preceptor for new nurses. When the opportunity to become a clinical instructor arose she began her formal teaching career. Ruth is grateful to be able to share her rich experience with UNM CON students.

Ruth's favorite current pastime is spending time with her granddaughters encouraging them in all they do.
