Mona Ternus is an Associate Professor at the College of Nursing with 20 years of experience in Critical Care, Trauma, and Flight nursing; 15 years of military experience; and 10 years of teaching experience at the university level. Lt Col Ternus is also a member of the US Air Force Reserve Nurse Corps, and has participated in deployments in support of Operations Joint Endeavor/Joint Guard, Restore Democracy, Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, as well as multinational exercises: Patriot Medstar, Royal Dragon, and MEDLITE 2000, 2003, and 2006. Dr. Ternus has been a faculty member of the University of New Mexico, Old Dominion University and Auburn University and has authored over 35 publications and 50 presentations. Publications include articles in Military Medicine, Aviation, Space and Environmental Medicine, The Federal Practitioner, Nurse Educator, and Aerospace Power Journal. Dr. Ternus was also the Primary Investigator for a TriService Nursing Research Program Grant on Combat Casualty Aeromedical Evacuation (2003-04). Current area of research is on the effects of military deployment with a focus on military women who have deployed and are mothers of adolescent children.
