Jan Wayland is Assistant Professor, Clinical Educator Track, at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing. She received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin, her Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Houston, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA.

Dr. Wayland's nursing specialty area is parent-child nursing. She has worked in inpatient maternal and newborn units and in community settings. She has taught undergraduate and graduate nursing courses in academic settings for more than 25 years. Her primary research focus has been adolescent pregnancy and parenting. Dr. Wayland is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN), and she has accepted a 3-year appointment on the Editorial Advisory Board for JOGNN beginning in January 2009.

Dr. Wayland's hobbies include quilting, reading, walking with her canine friend, Lobie, and swimming with her husband, John Barton. She also enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.
