P.J. Woods is an Assistant Professor at the College of Nursing, Health Sciences Center, and University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Woods earned her Associates Degree from the College of Santa Fe, attended Phyllip Y Hahn in San Diego for her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, earned a Masters in Nursing from the University of New Mexico, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and her doctorate from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Dr. Woods has focused her clinical, teaching, and research trajectory on nursing workforce issues including recruitment, retention and the professional development of nurses. She is a nationally recognized speaker, has published and focused her research on these topics. Woods served at the national level in Health Policy and had a Presidential Appointment to the National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality. Woods joined the faculty in 2005 after retiring as the Chief Nursing Officer of the Hospitals at the Health Sciences Center and University of New Mexico after 21 years of service. During her tenure as the Chief Nursing Officer she was the Associate Dean for Clinical Nursing Services and held a joint faculty appointment at the College of Nursing. She developed the first Academic Nurse Residency Program in the United States; there are now 24 Academic Hospitals participating in a National IRB through the University Health Systems Consortium. Her teaching experience includes undergraduate and graduate levels. Her content areas are nursing research, career trajectory programs that link academic and service, and nursing administration with a focus on leadership, quality and finance. |
