Spirit of Achievement Awards honor Raburn, Willman

Eclipse Aviation Corp. CEO Vern Raburn and Dr. Cheryl Willman -- director and CEO of the University of New Mexico's Cancer Center -- will both receive 2007 Spirit of Achievement Awards on June 4.

The awards are sponsored by the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in recognition of Albuquerque citizens who have made outstanding contributions to the local community. Past winners include former governors Bruce King and Gary Johnson, Technology Ventures Corp. CEO Sherman McCorkle, Debbie and Rick Johnson of Rick Johnson & Co. Inc., U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, R-NM, and U.S. Representatives Manuel Luján, Heather Wilson and the late Steven H. Schiff.

The charitable awards dinner helps fund medical assistance for low-income and indigent individuals. Over the past several years, 60 cents on every dollar raised at the Spirit of Achievement Award ceremony has gone to providing free and heavily subsidized care to New Mexicans. The National Jewish center has provided $108,000 in charity and subsidized services to New Mexico residents just in the past three years.

Sponsorships for a dinner table of 10 range from $1,500 to $10,000. Individual tickets cost $150.

The dinner is at 7 p.m. at the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, 800 Río Grande Blvd. NW. For more information, call (800) 423-8891 ext. 1897, or send e-mail to nelsonk@njc.org.
