U937 cells stably expressing GFP-tagged formyl peptide receptor (green). The addition of octadecyl Rhodamine B (appearance of red fluorescence) leads to the incorporation of octadecyl Rhod. B into both the plasma membrane and internalized vesicles. Subsequent addition of KI quenches red fluorescence everywhere except in internalized vesicles. Confocal fluorescence images merged with DIC image.

Fluorescent microspheres moving slightly in fluid current indicate tethering to DNA. In contrast, microspheres stuck to the substrate do not move at all and free floating microspheres move through the field under the influence of an applied current.
