UNM ED Wilderness and International Medicine

International emergency medicine can conjure up images of working in an ER in Latin America, or manning a high altitude clinic in the Nepal Himalayas, or studying a prehospital system in Europe. Some might even think international emergency medicine as attending a CME conference on emergency medicine in the Middle East. Perhaps a sabbatical in a given discipline in emergency medicine for six months in France might fit the bill. Some see the subspecialty as obtaining a public health degree in the United States, in order to put their new body of information to work not only for the development of our specialty, but to improve health policy worldwide. These are all facets of international emergency medicine, and we at the University of New Mexico Department of Emergency Medicine are actively involved in these facets not only from a participant perspective, but from a leadership perspective as well. Please explore our site, and see what we have to offer!
