David Wachter MD, MS

David Wachter is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He first went to Nepal in the mid-1980’s as an exchange student, and has been back numerous times since then. He has worked clinically in the Emergency Rooms of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu and the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, and has taught residents and medical students from Nepal and the U.S. in those settings. He has also worked in Public Health in rural Nepal, and spent a season staffing the Himalayan Rescue Association clinic in Pheriche (near Everest Base Camp). He has covered much of the country by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, and all kinds of other scary motorized vehicles, and speaks Nepali fluently.
