I have a REALLY circuitous path to New Mexico and this Department: born in North Carolina; after university did hard labor in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, California, Montana; discovered I could play drums and climb mountains at some point; met my wife (Dr. Linda Cook) and discovered I could use my brain for a living; moved to Seattle and went to graduate school; climbed more and learned to ski; quit playing music; worked as a consultant in environmental risk and risk and decision analysis for some time; moved to Calgary Alberta; climbed more and discovered waterfall ice climbing; started playing music again; freed my heels/freed my mind (i.e. discovered telemarking); switched my career from consulting to academia and health care; discovered the patient safety field; became a Canadian citizen; and in 2007 Dr. Cook was recruited to the UNM Cancer Center and here I am!
