THE FACILITIES

Lifeguard Air Emergency Services:
Our fixed wing flight service which is based at UNM flies emergency patients from throughout New Mexico, southern Colorado and Arizona. Emergency medicine residents have the option of flying as a member of the Lifeguard team

PHI Air Medical Transport: Our helicopter service includes three A-Star B3 rotorcraft located in Albuquerque, Grants and Taos. Residents can function as assistant medical director for this service as well as fly as an elective during the PGY III year. PHI does a large number of scene flights around New Mexico which is a unique aspect of our air transport experience.

The New Mexico Regional Federal Medical Center:  The VA hospital in Albuquerque is actually the New Mexico Regional Federal Medical Center (NMRFMC) which cares for both VA patients, and Air Force personnel working at the adjacent Kirtland Air Force Base, and their dependents. It is a newly completed 404 bed hospital. The ED is administered through the UNM department of Emergency Medicine. Its excellent emergency physicians participate in the training of EM residents.
