UNM Department of Emergency Medicine- Residents' Biographies

Dusadee Sarangarm

Undergrad: New Mexico State University
Med School: University of New Mexico School of Medicine
Hometown: Las Cruces, NM by way of Chiang Mai, Thailand

Why Albuquerque: I love this place! It has everything that is important to me: my mom and dad, my sister, my boyfriend, my friends and green chile.

.....Anything else interesting: Though imported from Bangkok, I am as rooted to New Mexico as they come – kindergarten through medical school.  I briefly thought about leaving the state for residency, only to realize how completely happy I am here and how completely without green chile the rest of the country is.  One of the things I enjoy doing the most is traveling, having been to Thailand, Cambodia, Italy, Greece, Brazil, Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala and some Caribbean countries in the past four years.  Other passions of mine include eating (Thai people love food), salsa dancing and fixing computers.  I also like to hike and play with my two very badly behaved dogs, Lili and Lila.  I have been known to read the occasional romance novel, but I may deny it if you ask; really though, I can only handle so much practical knowledge in my head before I have to stuff some kind of nonsense into it and I don’t watch TV. :D  At present, I am determined to improve my snowboarding skills and Spanish fluency, neither endeavor making me appear very graceful nor literate.  I am also learning to cook something more than eggs, which is making my mom inordinately proud.  That pretty much sums it up.  I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and to a great year!

Life Before Med School: I finished my bachelor’s degree and spent close to a year working as an engineer at Intel.  I also took a trip to Italy, Greece and Thailand.

Hobbies: Dance, travel, read, hike, snowboard, play with my puppies, fix computers (don’t judge), eating

Worst/Best job: The worst job was being a data entry monkey at the County Mapping Office when I was in high school. Easily the most boring job ever, which you would think is better than waitressing, but at least when I served tables I could talk to people. The best job was being an engineering intern because the pay was awesome and there was no school. (Though I bet I’ll like this job better!)

Favorite Band: I can’t remember the name of any bands, celebrities, song names, etc. but I don’t like any music that I can’t sing or dance to.
Favorite Movie: Hero, What Dreams May Come, The Notebook
