Emergency Ultrasound Elective

    The Emergency Ultrasound elective is made up of four major components:

Didactic
 

Hands-on
 

Evaluation
 

Reading List

  Upon completion of the Emergency Ultrasound Rotation,
           please submit the following online evaluation: 
EUS Elective Evaluation.
                                             

 

 
 

Didactic:

  • Two hours of small-group lecture weekly, generally on the same day.
  • Three hours of clip review weekly.
  • Occasional EM resident conference lecture.

Hands-on:

  • 11-12 hours total of scanning shifts per week, either with course director or other core ultrasound faculty.

Evaluations:

  • Pre-rotation exam.
  • Student evaluation of EUS Elective and faculty.
  • Faculty and resident evaluation of student.

All evaluations scores, submitted by faculty they have worked with and rotating residents, will be averaged.

  • A score of 4.0 and above (out of 5.0) is needed for an outstanding in the clinical area.
  • Post-rotation exam: score of 70% or better needed to pass.
  • Final grade: 70% from clinical evaluations, 30% from participation in didactic sessions (an evaluation by didactic faculty, currently Dr. Baty).
