MEDICAL KITS

Personal Medical Kits

Such kits should be carried by every member of a given trip or expedition. This will include the participant’s own medication (ie for maintenance of hypertension, diabetes, etc.) The size will vary according to the individual’s needs. Make it small enough so that it doesn’t get left behind!

An antibiotic isn’t necessary except if the potential for prolonged diarrheal, skin, or respiratory illness is anticipated. Do not use unless you have a prescription (yeah right…you can buy most of this stuff over the counter in other countries)!

Moderate Medical Kits

Use on longer trips or when larger amounts of people accompany you. This kit is in addition to the Personal Kit previously mentioned. These kits can be specialized for the anticipated type of environment, such as in high altitude or polar environments. To save space, smaller containers or plastic Ziploc types of bags can hold meds well and save space. Oxygen, IV fluids, and a cardiac/oxygen saturation monitor are not shown.
