The Personal Survival Kit
These are the
basic essentials wherever you go. Make sure it is small enough; it will
be left behind if it is too bulky. And if you don’t have it, when you
need it…too bad! One could get by without a compass if no movement is
done, although the signal mirror is valuable if one gets lost. The fire
starting method must be always reliable; paper matches get wet and won’t
do! Matches should at least be paraffin coated. The man-made flint, with
a short training period, is always reliable, even in adverse conditions.
You need an object to create the spark, such as a knife. Parachute cord
can be used for multiple lashings and traps, and a whistle will alert
others to your whereabouts when lost
