LAURA
BANKS, DVM, MPH
Dept. of Emergency Medicine
|
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR DISASTER MEDICINE
DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR INJURY PREVENTION RESEARCH AND EDUCATION
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Colorado State University
Masters in Public Health, University of New Mexico
Interests: public health, injury prevention,
and disaster management.
I am
an Albuquerque native, but I took a 10 year vacation in Colorado. I have one
teenage son who I think is the most brilliant, talented, funny, considerate
kid in the world - but I may be biased. My academic interests are public
health, injury prevention, and disaster management and I love working with
the terrific staff and faculty at CDM and CIPRE. I think we totally rock -
but, again, there is a possible bias. I also love music.

GILLIAN
BATY, MD, MPH
Dept. of Emergency Medicine |
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
DIRECTOR, EMERGENCY ULTRASOUND
Med
School: University of Utah
Residency: University of New Mexico
Fellowship: Christiana Care Health System, Delaware
Interests:
Constantly evolving but currently Emergency Ultrasound, resident education, and
global health.
I’d love
to lay claim to roots in New Mexico, but I’m a transplant. I moved from a town
in Utah where the unofficial song was “I’m not from here, I just live here” so
I’m no stranger to the concept. They don’t call New Mexico the “land of
entrapment” for nothing - it now feels like home.
I ultimately returned after emergency ultrasound fellowship for many reasons,
but foremost among them that our residency rocks and the patient mix is unique,
diverse and challenging. The clinical community is collegial and the academic
support is heads above.
Like so many others in emergency medicine, I am a lifelong outdoor fanatic. I’ve
been climbing for more than twenty years, mountain bike, fly fish occasionally,
do yoga when my back spasms, and more recently have taken up running. I’m still
discovering the variety and quality of all outdoor pursuits NM has to offer.
