This experience blends well with my current positions as Director of the Center
for Disaster Medicine, Medical Director for the Office of Health Emergency
Management for the New Mexico Department of Health, State EMS Medical Director,
and Medical Director for the NM-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT). I
have recently focused much of my academic and administrative activities hospital
and health system preparedness for emergencies and developing educational
programs in emergency management and disaster medicine. Some of my favorite
activities include fly-fishing for rainbows in northern New Mexico and spending

I am another transplanted
Pennsylvanian (like Drs Kresovich, Brillman and Leo), but my route has been
circuitous: from the Mid West to New England to the Deep South to the Pacific
Northwest, and finally here. Some of the finest people in Emergency Medicine
at the nursing, resident and faculty levels work at UNM, and it’s a privilege to
be a part of this department.
