  • Tudor Oprea, PhD – Core Leader
    Director
    1 University of New Mexico
    Office of Research
    MSC05 3370
    Albuquerque, NM 87131
Dr. Oprea is the FC3 Core leader of the Biocomputing Core at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Dr. Oprea received his M.D. (General Medicine, 1990) and Ph.D. (Molecular Physiology, 1992) from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara, Romania, and has four years of postdoctoral training at Washington University, St. Louis MO (with Garland R. Marshall, 1992-1994), and at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos NM (with Angel E. Garcia, 1994-1996). He spent six years at AstraZeneca R&D Molndal, Sweden, as Research Scientist (1996-2000) and Associate Director, Lead Informatics (2000-2002), before taking his position at UNM. Dr. Oprea has extensive experience in cheminformatics (computer-aided drug design, chemometrics, virtual screening and lead discovery) and in bioinformatics (sequence alignments, homology modeling, and protein modeling). His FC3 duties include the coordination of the FC3 team, the implementation of the FC3 aims and the alignment of FC3 to the biocomputing needs of NIEHS members and associates. He is currently conducting research related to G-protein coupled receptors, adhesion molecules and cytochromes P450. Dr. Oprea was the 2002 recipient of the Hansch Award from the QSAR and Modeling Society, and serves on the Editorial Board for Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modeling, and for QSAR and Combinatorial Science.

Mr. Abear is a Systems Analyst with over 10 years of experience in computer network operations and maintenance for very large organizations.  Mr. Abear received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from New Mexico State University.  Mr. Abear is currently administrating NT networks and providing software support for genomic and proteomic research.  He maintains a network of computer systems for the Biocomputing Core Facility.  He coordinates staff training in network and software applications.  Mr. Abear is evaluating software applications for genomics research and database design.

  • Zeyu Jiang, PhD
    Research Scientist
    1 University of New Mexico
    Office of Research
    MSC05-3370
    Albuquerque, NM 87131

Dr. Jiang is a research scientist of the Biocomputing Core at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Dr. Jiang received his PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Indiana University. Dr. Jiang's current research activities include applying statistical methods to analyze and validate large scale gene expression data, classification of genes based on graph theory, and designing of microarray experiments. He has also been involved in modeling regulatory networks from transcriptional profiling data and developing a client-server pipeline system for automated annotation of genomic DNA sequences.
