General Information

The mission of the cardiovascular toxicology research core is to elucidate the mechanisms underlying interaction of environmental pollutants and physiological factors on the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems which contribute to the etiology and/or accerbation of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease.  To achieve this mission the core integrates the expertise of investigators in the areas of cardiovascular and pulmonary pharmacology, physiology, and toxicology.   Specific environmental pollutants of interest include 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, diesel exhaust, and polycylic aromatic hydrocarbons.  In addition, the physiological influences of both intermittent and chronic hypoxia and their interaction with environmental pollutants on cardiovascular and pulmonary physiological are of particular interest.
